Knock Softly, Then Enter...All Are Welcome At The Old House....
Once the estate of the wealthy Collins family, "The Old House" stood vacant and abandoned for many, many years before the arrival of the Collins family's "Cousin From England", Barnabas Collins (who just happened to bear a startling resemblance to the portrait of the "first" Barnabas Collins that hangs in the foyer of Collinwood, the new home of the Collins clan.

The Old House was dirty, filled with cob webs and dried leaves that had blown in when the front doors were opened, run down, and dismal, but "Cousin" Barnabas loved it there, and begged to be able to rent it from Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, the family Matriarch

Elizabeth was hesitant, but younger brother Roger Collins, convinced her to allow Barnabas to live there. Neither Elizabeth nor Roger would accept rent payments from their "cousin". He was allowed to
live in The Old House For free.

With the help of Willie Loomis, Barnabas slowly renovated The Old House to it's former splendor...BUT he would allow no electricity, no telephones...nothing that had not existed when The Old House was occupied by the Collins family.

Illuminated by candles, and the old familar family portraits returned to the places where they had formerly hung...The Old House took on a cozy, old-world appeal. There was always crackling, welcoming fires blazing in the fireplaces. The walls, the ceilings were alive with the dancing shadows cast by the candles and the fireplace flames.

"Cousin" Barnabas was always so cordial, and soft spoken. His old-world, gentlemanly manners caused his "American Cousins" to accept and respect him. They had no idea, that behind that suave, debonaire facade, lurked a horrible secret. "Cousin" Barnabas not only resembled the picture in Collinswood's foyer, HE was the man who had posed for it 300 years ago! Barnabas Collins was a 300 year old vampire...cursed by the witch Angelique...to live by night as one of the UNDEAD...and drink the blood of the living!
